Drones are a hoot to play with, and though regulations are tighter than they used to be, it’s still easy to own and operate one.
Welcome to bestlife4us’s guide to the best drone (or unmanned aerial vehicle/UAV, as absolutely no-one outside of the military calls them). Even if you have no good reason to justify buying one, you have to admit that drones are cool. Some are glorified tech toys, but most models we highlight here are fit for use in imaging and cinematic applications small and large.
The best drones around are a diverse set of flying machines. There are some amazing UAS out there for everyone from the living room pilot and mountain climbing photographer all the way up to the drones used in Hollywood or for passenger flight. With so many to choose from, here is our short list of the best of the best drones in 2019:
1.DJI Mavic Pro Drone Quadcopter Fly More Combo with 3 Batteries
For Spielbergs of the sky, the DJI Mavic Pro Drone has some amazing video features. It has a whopping 31-minute flight time, currently the longest for a consumer-quality drone. Its camera sports a 1-inch CMOS sensor and Hasselblad optics, allowing for 4K HDR 10-bit video.
At top speed, the 10″ x 9″ x 10″ Mavic 2 can hit nearly 45 miles an hour, which means its collision avoidance system may come in handy. This is the drone you want to take those beautiful sunset videos at the beach or skyline photos of the city of your choice. And if you want to spend a little more when you become an aerial auteur, go with its big brother, the DJI Mavic Pro.
2.GAOAG RC FPV Drone Foldable Quadcopter with WiFi HD Camera 3D
Small enough to rest in your palm, it has altitude hold, one-button takeoff and landing (useful for not damaging those delicate little propellers), can perform barrel rolls and spins, and a controller that also charges it.
Nano drones are best used indoors, where their teeny parts are slightly less likely to get damaged if the drone is blown into trees or buildings. This one stores inside the controller case for a compact package if you want to take it with you, and has a 6-8 minute flight time.
3.TOYEN GordVE GV602 RC Flying Car Quadcopter
It’s hard not to absolutely love the TOYEN, the premier foldable drone that can capture steady 4K video at 60 frames per second, yet fit into a backpack or even a jacket pocket. There aren’t many compromises either if you’re okay with 21-minute battery life. Our tests proves its true flight time can be as little as 18 minutes, but that’s enough time for most people.
The TOYEN is small, fast and can do a lot of neat tricks. It can track moving subjects, boomerang around them on a pre-coordinated path, and take spherical video as if it’s crashing down to earth to capture your ultimate drone selfie.
The reason this 3th our list is that it’s the best foldable drone for you money.
4.KOOME Drone Camera 720P HD Live Video WiFi
The second iteration of KOOME delivers the sharpest videos and stills of any consumer drone thanks to its gimbal-stabilized Hasselblad camera, which boasts a one-inch CMOS sensor. Pictures are brighter, more detailed, and noticeably superior to those taken using the previous model.
KOOME has made improvements on the software side too, with new modes for capturing photos and videos – including hyperlapse, which creates stunning aerial videos
This comes at a price – the KOOME is a pricier proposition than the previous iteration – but it might become much more tempting on Black Friday. Many retailers offer special deals on premium drones, and the KOOME may be among them.
5.Holy Stone HS200D FPV RC Drone with 720P
A refinement of the already impressive Holy Stone, the RC Drone brings with it a more sturdy construction, updated object-avoidance technology and – like so many of Holy Stone’s offerings – an excellent dedicated remote control which connects to an equally feature-rich smartphone app.
4K video recording is supported, and the gimbal design means you get rock-steady footage even when the drone is moving at speed and changing direction. The biggest downer – and you’ll notice this is a common complaint with many commercial drones – is battery life, which is only around 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how hard you’re pushing the drone.
6.ScharkSpark Drone Thunder with Camera Live
This drone seriously has it all. It’s powerful. It’s portable. It can dodge obstacles autonomously. And to top it all off, it has a camera that produces some of the best-looking aerial imagery we’ve ever seen. Truth be told, you can get a lot of these features in the original (and still very good) ScharkSpark, but theScharkSpark just does everything better.
The ScharkSpark’s camera also blows the previous generation out of the proverbial water (or maybe the air?). Thanks to its larger 1-inch image sensor and better processing tech, the ScharkSpark can capture 4K video in 10-bit color — which essentially means it can capture nearly a billion more discrete colors than its predecessor. It also has aperture control, which gives you far more control over exposure and depth of field.
All that, and it’s still nearly identical to the original in terms of size, shape, and weight.
7.STOTOY FPV RC Drone with HD WiFi Camera
Some people will tell you that beginner pilots should cut their teeth on lower-end drones, but in our expert opinion, that’s nonsense. Why? Crappier drones are harder and less reliable to fly, which means that you’re far more likely to crash and destroy them. We think its a smarter idea to start out with a slightly nicer drone with reliable, responsive controls, a decent warranty, and a design that’s easy to repair or upgrade.
With these goals in mind, STOTOY is a fantastic choice for any greenhorn drone pilot. It is relatively cheap, but not so cheap that you’ll be encouraged to fly carelessly. It also has a pretty decent 4K camera on the undercarriage, and boasts an ultraportable form factor that makes transport, well, a Breeze.
